Volkswagen Announces EV Infrastructure Developments for 2021

VW EV Infrastructure Developmens in 2021 | Lewisville, TX

With the electric Volkswagen ID.4 now hitting the market and many more EVs on the way, VW is setting itself up to have an impressive EV lineup in the future. To make this lineup possible, VW has announced that an array of new EV infrastructure developments are on the way.

Volkswagen Group of America’s Chief Operating Officer, Johan de Nysschen, said, “It’s important that the infrastructure supporting our products continues to grow in the U.S. as we aim to deliver more vehicles designed in the market, for the market at the right time and at the right price.”

At the VW Innovation and Engineering Center California facility located in Silicon Valley, the automaker will install a sizeable charge park. Up to 51 EVs will be able to charge here at one time, making the facility one of the largest charge parks in the Bay Area.

VW is also working to create a new battery engineering lab at the VW Engineering and Planning Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Once the lab is finished, this facility will become the central hub for the production of VW EVs in North America. Additional EV-based expansions will take place at facilities in Arizona, Virginia, and other states.

VW EVs Will Gain the NXP Battery Management System

Volkswagen EV Gains NXP Battery System | Lewisville, TX

With plans to offer multiple electric vehicles in the next few years, Volkswagen intends to add new technologies to these vehicles to make them more powerful. According to the automaker, one of the first innovations it wants to add is the NXP battery management system.

At the NXP Connects developer conference on Oct. 20, 2020, NXP CEO Kurt Sievers revealed that the company would be partnering with VW. The companies will work to integrate the NXP battery management system into the VW MEB electric vehicle platform.

This updated technology will ultimately increase the driving range and battery life of VW EVs. Currently, the VW ID.4 has an estimated range of 250 miles, so you can take daily commutes and small road trips without worrying about charging.* However, with the new system, this range could be even better and the SUV could be even stronger.

Head of Development for Vehicle Energy Supply and High Voltage Systems at Volkswagen AG, Dr. Holger Manz, also said, “Incorporating a functionally safe battery management system that can scale across many car models makes it easier to achieve the full power potential of a battery, optimized range, and the extension of the battery’s lifetime.”

We at Lewisville Volkswagen are excited about these new VW models and technologies. If you’re interested in learning about the current and upcoming VW models available, be sure to give us a call.

*The ID.4 Pro S and 1st Edition EPA estimated total range is 250 miles. Actual mileage and range will vary and depend on several factors including driving and charging habits, accessory use, temperature and topography, battery age, load, and vehicle condition. Battery capacity decreases with time and use. See owner’s manual for details.

How to Take Better Care of Your Volkswagen in 2021

Take Better Care of Your Volkswagen | Lewisville, TX

Have you neglected maintenance tasks on your Volkswagen recently? Are you driving aggressively or pushing your VW to its limit? What about washing and waxing — when was the last time you cleaned and polished your car? With 2021 on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to start taking better care of your VW sedan or SUV.

Drive more carefully

It’s easy to become aggravated behind the wheel, but doing so has negative effects on your Volkswagen. The faster you brake and the more aggressively you accelerate will wear your car out much faster. This year, exercise patience behind the wheel and be gentle with your car. It’ll preserve the engine, tires, and brakes. Speaking of tires…

Monitor the tires

Every month in 2021, check your Volkswagen car’s tires for proper inflation, cracks, bulges, damage, or signs of wear and tear. The pavement around Dallas and Fort Worth can be hazardous and damage your car’s tires, so it’s important to catch any problems before they become emergencies. Plus, the temperatures can rise and fall dramatically throughout the year here in Lewisville, and those fluctuations can cause your tires to deteriorate more.

Wash and wax regularly

The Texas heat, pollutants in the air, and debris on the road can severely damage your Volkswagen’s exterior over time. Give your sedan or SUV a protective shield with a thorough wash and re-waxing every couple months.

Schedule an oil change

Clean, fresh oil protects your engine, helps it run well, and promotes fuel efficiency. This year, check the quality of your engine’s oil every month and refer to your owner’s manual for recommend oil change intervals. A change in season is a great reminder to schedule an oil change at Lewisville Volkswagen.

We want you to get the most value out of your VW and keep it running well for as long as possible. Our trained service technicians are happy to give your VW sedan or SUV a check-up and tune-up to help you start 2021 off right. For all your Volkswagen maintenance needs, contact Lewisville Volkswagen in Lewisville, Texas.

The powertrain has a modified version of the Miller cycle, closing the intake valves early in the induction stroke to improve fuel economy. A high-pressure injection system with a maximum of 350 bar, a map-controlled cooling module, APS coated cylinder liners, and Variable Turbine Geometry technology further enhance efficiency.

How to Protect Your Car’s Paint from the Sun in Lewisville, TX

Protect Your Car's Paint From The Sun | Lewisville, TX

Here in Texas, the hot sun can be scorching during summer and cause damage to your car. Without proper protection, your car’s paint can fade when sitting in the sun day after day. With just a little work, you can help protect your paint from intense sun damage. Here’s what our service experts at Lewisville Volkswagen recommend doing.

Wash it seasonally

Washing your car every couple months can help remove dirt and bird poop that can damage the clear coat and paint underneath. Be sure you park your car in a shaded area while washing so the soap and dirty water do not dry before you can rinse it off. Normally, you only need to scrub it seasonally, unless it gets particularly dirty.

Add some wax

After washing it, apply a fresh coat of wax to provide another layer of protection against the ultraviolet rays of the sun.

Park in the shade

Parking in the shade not only gives your car’s paint a break, but it can keep the interior a little bit cooler. Try to find a parking spot that will be in the shade when you return to your car.

Cover your car

At home, park in your garage or car port whenever possible. If you don’t have one, invest in a fitted car cover to protect your car from the elements.

If your car’s air conditioning or engine are acting up during this sweltering summer, bring your car to Lewisville Volkswagen’s service center. We’ll be happy to check it out for you.
