Here in Texas, the hot sun can be scorching during summer and cause damage to your car. Without proper protection, your car’s paint can fade when sitting in the sun day after day. With just a little work, you can help protect your paint from intense sun damage. Here’s what our service experts at Lewisville Volkswagen recommend doing.
Wash it seasonally
Washing your car every couple months can help remove dirt and bird poop that can damage the clear coat and paint underneath. Be sure you park your car in a shaded area while washing so the soap and dirty water do not dry before you can rinse it off. Normally, you only need to scrub it seasonally, unless it gets particularly dirty.
Add some wax
After washing it, apply a fresh coat of wax to provide another layer of protection against the ultraviolet rays of the sun.
Park in the shade
Parking in the shade not only gives your car’s paint a break, but it can keep the interior a little bit cooler. Try to find a parking spot that will be in the shade when you return to your car.
Cover your car
At home, park in your garage or car port whenever possible. If you don’t have one, invest in a fitted car cover to protect your car from the elements.
Did you know that the Volkswagen Tiguan is the most popular Volkswagen model in the world? In 2019, Volkswagen manufactured more than 910,000 Tiguan units, with over six million produced since 2007. To continue the successes of this compact SUV, Volkswagen is giving the Tiguan a comprehensive update for the 2022 model year that will include new styling, more technology, and greater comfort.
On the outside, the 2022 Tiguan has a completely new front end that will make it resemble other VW SUVs like the larger Atlas. All trim levels will also come with new wheel designs. The updates continue in the cabin with a new digital multifunction steering wheel and a restyled dashboard layout.
Advanced technology will be one of the main focuses of the updated Tiguan. Each one will come with either an 8.0- or 10.25-inch touch screen as well as the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit interface. The latest generation of the brand’s modular infotainment system (MIB3) comes standard and features a multi-phone pairing ability, natural voice control, and Car-Net® App-Connect capabilities.
Helping you to stay comfortable on chilly winter mornings in Texas, the 2022 Tiguan will come standard with heated front seats. If you are excited about these new updates, the 2022 Tiguan will make its debut here at Lewisville Volkswagen in the fall of 2021. Contact us to be notified when it arrives.
While some brands name their cars boring combinations of letters and numbers, Volkswagen puts a lot of thought into choosing the right names for its models. Whether it is a classic model like the Beetle or the new Atlas SUV, here is some history behind how these names were chosen.
The Volkswagen Atlas is named after a legendary Greek titan whose job it was to hold up the sky. The Atlas is a strong seven-passenger SUV, making it a perfect choice for this larger-than-life name.
If the name Jetta makes you think of motion, then it is doing its job. The Jetta was based on the German word for jet stream and follows a wind motif in its design.
Another VW SUV is the Tiguan. This model’s name was chosen with the help of the German people through a magazine poll. From the choices Namib, Rockton, Samun, Nanuk, and Tiguan, the people chose Tiguan, which is a portmanteau of tiger and iguana — fierce and exotic.
Perhaps the most iconic Volkswagen of all is the Beetle. Its official name was the Volkswagen Type 1, but it was quickly dubbed the Käfer, the German word for Beetle, due to its round shape. This became its official model name and what the world calls it 70 years later.
You can find all of these models new or used here at Lewisville Volkswagen in the lovely city of Volkswagen, TX. Visit us to take a test drive.

The most popular Volkswagen model is about to receive a major update. The refreshed Volkswagen Tiguan SUV will arrive with upgraded technologies and new looks both inside and outside.
This refresh should help Volkswagen continue the sales success of the Tiguan, which sold more than 900,000 units last year and has notched over 6 million sales since its 2007 debut.
On the outside, the 2022 Tiguan will gain a newer, sportier front-end design. LED headlights and taillights are likely to come standard.
The cabin is in line for a new design, too, including a redesigned steering wheel, increased usage of premium materials, and available multicolor ambient lighting. From there, drivers will be able to access the new MIB3 infotainment system, which will include Android Auto™, Apple CarPlay®, and other digital technologies.
The Tiguan will also come with a wider range of available safety technologies, such as road-sign recognition, traffic-jam assist, and advanced lane-keeping assist with lane centering.

If your family’s favorite destinations for Texas summer fun are closed, or if you don’t feel comfortable going out yet, these do-it-yourself backyard activities suggested by us at Lewisville Volkswagen are sure to keep everyone entertained throughout the warmer months.
Set up a series of your family’s favorite games and hold your own backyard Olympics this summer. Croquet, cornhole, outdoor bowling, sack races, and water balloon tossing are just a few of the many possibilities. If you’re feeling especially creative, you could even make medals and plan a special ceremony for the winners.
Instead of dealing with the crowds at Lewisville’s pools and parks, make your own splash in the backyard. Inflatable pools, water slides, and sprinklers are fairly inexpensive — and they’re an investment that pays off with good times for all ages.
Whether you sleep in a tent or under the stars, backyard camping can be fun for your whole family. Eat a picnic dinner, gaze at the stars, or tell spooky stories in the dark. If you have a projector and a sheet, you can even enjoy a movie night outside.
With these enjoyable activities, you and your loved ones can look forward to a memorable summer of stay-at-home fun this year. We at Lewisville Volkswagen hope your family stays safe and healthy this summer; and to keep your car healthy, we recommend scheduling a maintenance checkup with our service center.
Summer heat here in Lewisville, Texas, can be a bit extreme in the summer. If your car is sitting in the sun, it can suffer a lot of damage. Here are a few ways to keep your car protected from the Texas summer.
Park in the shade
If you can, park your car in the shade all the time. If it will be parked in one spot for most of the day, try to find a spot where the shade will fall on your car at the end of the day so it will be cooler when you come back. You can always leave the windows open a crack to lower the temperature, too, if you’re in a secure place and it won’t rain.
Wash and wax your car
Over time, the sun and heat can damage the finish on your car. Frequent washing and waxing can help remove the dirt and protect it from the sun by giving it an extra protective coat.
Use a windshield cover
When you park your car, use a windshield cover to reflect some of rays. This will help keep your car cooler and protect the interior.
Use a leather conditioner
If the car has a leather interior, you need to apply a conditioner to keep the leather protected. The sun and heat can dry and crack the leather if it is not maintained properly.
If your car’s air conditioning needs fixed or engine is overheating this summer, bring your Volkswagen to the Lewisville Volkswagen service center. We can help your car stay cool this season.
One of the best ways to bond with your children is by including them in the things you love. If you are a father and you love taking care of your car, consider asking your kids to help you with some basic maintenance. Not only will this help teach them valuable skills, but it can be a great way to spend valuable time with them. Here are some easy maintenance things that are safe for kids to do.
Checking the oil
Reading the dipstick is an essential task in checking your car’s health, and your kids can help. Show them how to safely remove the dipstick when the car is cool and let them find the line, telling you if it’s too low.
Checking the air filter
Pulling out the air filter and seeing if it is dirty is an easy task for kids. Show them how to hold it up to the light. If you can see through it, the filter is okay, but if you can see dirt and dust, it is time to replace it.
Checking the tires
An air pressure gauge is an easy tool to use. Show your kids how to press it quickly against the valve stem to read the tire pressure.
Involving your children in basic car maintenance is an important learning exercise for one day owning their own car. And if you have a teen that’s ready for their first car, we have lots of affordable used cars in stock at Lewisville Volkswagen.
Spring is almost upon us, and that means it’s the perfect time of year to give your vehicle a good once-over. If you’re aching to get outside and spring clean your car, consider these tips from your friends at Lewisville Volkswagen.
Clean out clutter
The first step is to throw away trash and remove anything you’ve been leaving in your car that doesn’t belong there. This gives you a good place to start cleaning the interior.
Scrub and vacuum
Vacuuming the floor of your car can only do so much if you have dirt and debris in the nooks and crannies. Take out the floor mats and give everything a good scrub before breaking out the vacuum.
Use the right soap
Did you know dish soap can wear away your car’s shine? Avoid wear-and-tear by using a soap formulated specifically to wash cars.
Window cleaner last
Because of dirty water running down the sides of the car, windows have a tendency to get dirty again during the cleaning process. Save them for last, and clean both inside and out with a window cleaner.
Catch up on maintenance
It’s not enough to keep your car clean. You have to keep it running, too. Don’t hesitate to bring your vehicle into Lewisville Volkswagen’s service department. Our skilled technicians can do any routine maintenance and a full mechanical inspection.
