How to Maintain a Car Not Driven Often

2021 Volkswagen ID4 | Lewisville, TX

With more and more workers in the greater Dallas-Fort Worth area having remote jobs, there’s a good possibility that you’re one of these people who doesn’t drive their car as often as they used to. Working from home in Lewisville can be great for your mental health, but that doesn’t mean you should neglect the vehicle parked in your driveway. Here’s what you should do to properly maintain a car that’s not driven often.

Rotate and Protect the Tires

Being parked for a prolonged period puts a lot of pressure on your car’s wheels, especially the tires. This can cause them to form flats spots or weaken their integrity. Roll your vehicle slightly backward or forward every few days to shift which area of the tire is carrying the weight. If you plan on not driving your car for a long time, raise it on jack stands.

Keep the Battery Charged

An unused battery has the potential to steadily lose its charge since it relies on the engine running to juice it back up. Without that, your car’s battery will need something else to keep it charged. We recommend connecting it to a trickle charger, which can keep the battery full when it’s not in use.

Keep the Oil Fresh

Just because you’re not driving your car doesn’t mean the engine oil is staying unblemished. The fluid can still become contaminated over time simply by resting in the motor and coming in contact with the gunk and metal surfaces in there. Make sure you’re still scheduling an oil change at Lewisville Volkswagen every six months at least.

Schedule a service appointment with your vehicle at Lewisville Volkswagen so it’s always ready to drive when you need it.

New All-Electric ID.5 SUV Proves Volkswagen’s Commitment to Clean Energy

New All-Electric ID.5 SUV Proves Volkswagen’s Commitment to Clean Energy | Lewisville, TX

As Volkswagen continues its march toward a cleaner, more eco-friendly future, the automaker has expanded its ID lineup with another all-electric entry. In November, the company unveiled the ID.5, the first coupe-style SUV in the brand’s ID family of pure-electric models.

Slotting alongside the ID.3 and ID.4, the newly launched ID.5 and ID.5 GTX are battery-powered E-SUV coupes that possess the latest electric powertrain technology from Volkswagen. They use over-the-air software updates to stay up-to-date on its intuitive driving assistance systems and digital memory functions.

What’s the difference between the VW ID.5 and ID.5 GTX? They use different powertrains and route power to the axles differently. The ID.5 is your standard EV setup with an electric motor in the rear, while the ID.5 GTX boosts performance with two e-motors, with each allocated to one of the SUV’s axles. This dual-motor configuration gives the ID.5 GTX responsive, efficient all-wheel-drive capability.

You’ll notice some design similarities between the VW ID.5 and the preceding electric SUV that Volkswagen released — the ID.4, which has already garnered plenty of praise for its eco-friendly design. What sets the all-electric ID.5 SUV apart is the dramatic slope of its roofline, which gives it a truly coupe-like profile.

The ID.5 is further proof that Volkswagen is committed to making the future of transportation cleaner and safer for everyone, implementing efforts like carbon-neutral manufacturing. Volkswagen Jetta Named Great Car for Recent College Grads

Volkswagen Jetta Named Great Car for Recent College Grads | Lewisville, TX

The Volkswagen Jetta was named among Autotrader’s top 10 Great Cars for Recent College Graduates, further establishing the popular sedan as an excellent, budget-friendly daily driver.

According to Autotrader, a car must offer stylish looks and high-tech features to appear on its annual list. It also must be affordable and have a combined fuel economy of at least 30 mpg — something the Jetta manages easily. The 2021 model, for example, gets up to 41 mpg on the highway.*

The publication specifically recommended the Jetta from model years 2016 to 2018, which are nearly as efficient. “The 2016 model year is a good spot to begin your search because that’s when the Jetta got a standard touch-screen infotainment system and USB port plus a new turbocharged base engine,” explained the Autotrader editors.

Certainly, the Jetta is a great introduction to any buyer to the Volkswagen brand. It has lively handling characteristics and a spacious cabin and trunk that belie its compact dimensions. When you’ve just graduated from college and need an affordable car to drive to work, it’s tough to beat a used Jetta.

The Volkswagen Bus is Back — and It’s Electric

The Volkswagen Bus is Back, and It’s Electric | Lewisville, TX

When Volkswagen unveiled the I.D. Buzz concept electric vehicle, which was clearly inspired by the iconic second-generation Volkswagen Bus of the 1960s and 70s, it was met to near-universal acclaim. Now, VW says it plans to make a production version of its electric prototype, which will go on sale in the U.S. in 2022.

“Our goal is clear: we want to make the fully electric, fully connected car a bestseller around the world,” said Volkswagen chairman Dr. Herbert Diess. “The iconic car of the electric age must be a Volkswagen.”

The future electric VW Bus, like the brand’s other I.D. concepts, will ride on the new Modular Electric Drive platform, which is designed to maximize the potential of future electrification technologies. Though it’s informally known as a bus because of its exterior design, the I.D. Buzz concept is more like a stylish minivan or SUV with exceptionally flexible interior arrangements.

It has three rows of ultra-configurable seats, including front seats that can be turned to face the back of the vehicle. This is made possible by a fold-away steering wheel, which is just one of many innovations introduced by the I.D. Buzz concept. Other features include pop-up laser scanners in the roof and an augmented reality-enabled head-up display.

Whenever the I.D. Buzz goes into production, you can count on finding it at Lewisville Volkswagen in Lewisville, Texas.
